Blog Post: Standing Guard for Our Heroes – The KOVH Foundation’s Fight to Keep Veteran Families Housed

When a veteran raises their hand to serve, they do so with a promise: to defend our freedoms and protect our communities. But when these same heroes return home, too many of them find themselves in a different kind of battle—a fight to keep a roof over their families’ heads. The KOVH (Keep Our Vets Housed) Foundation was born from that struggle, and today, it stands as the nation’s first nonprofit solely dedicated to raising awareness and support for veteran families facing or recovering from foreclosure.

A Mission Forged in Experience

The heart of KOVH beats with the lived experience of its founder, Amy Tilley-Boyd, who has fought to save her own family’s home since 2014. Her personal journey opened her eyes to the silent crisis affecting countless military families. For years, these families have navigated a confusing maze of red tape, outdated regulations, and insufficient safety nets—often alone. Amy realized something had to change. What started as a desperate effort to save one home has grown into a movement to protect thousands.

KOVH’s mission is clear: no veteran family should face foreclosure without a community behind them. This is more than housing—it’s about dignity, stability, and the promise our country made to those who served.

Why This Work Matters Now More Than Ever

As VA assistance programs like the Veteran Assistance Safeguard Program (VASP) sunset, the safety net for veteran homeowners is thinning. Rising housing costs, unpredictable interest rates, and economic uncertainty are pushing veteran families to the edge. Foreclosure is not just the loss of a home—it’s the unraveling of stability, emotional health, and financial security.

KOVH is sounding the alarm because the stakes are high. A family without a home can’t rebuild. A veteran worried about losing their house can’t focus on healing, working, or thriving. When a veteran family falls through the cracks, the ripple effects touch entire communities.

The KOVH Foundation’s Core Purpose

KOVH exists to:

  • Raise Awareness: Through social media campaigns, community events, and legislative advocacy, KOVH makes sure America understands the veteran foreclosure crisis isn’t just a statistic—it’s a call to action.

  • Support Families Directly: By connecting veteran households with resources, care packages, and guidance, KOVH ensures no family feels abandoned in their darkest hour.

  • Drive Systemic Change: The foundation works with lawmakers, VA representatives, and partner nonprofits to advocate for policies and programs that protect veteran homeowners.

Key Projects Making an Impact

1. “We’ve Got Your Backs” Care Package Project

When families face foreclosure, they often feel invisible and forgotten. KOVH delivers more than physical supplies—it delivers hope. Care packages include essentials, resource guides, and personal notes of encouragement to remind veterans they are not alone.

2. Veterans Housing Justice Ambassador Program

KOVH is building a grassroots network of ambassadors—one in every state—to advocate locally, share vital resources, and create a united voice for veteran families. Ambassadors work directly with community leaders, nonprofits, and legislators to ensure every corner of the country stands ready to help our heroes.

3. Silent Crisis Awareness Campaign & National Day of Action

On August 15th, KOVH mobilizes supporters nationwide to amplify the veteran foreclosure crisis. Through petitions, rallies, and online activism, this campaign pressures decision-makers to act and reminds struggling families that people are fighting for them.

4. Harvest of Hope Farm Initiative

KOVH isn’t just about stopping foreclosure—it’s about rebuilding lives. The Harvest of Hope project envisions a veteran-powered farm that provides employment, food security, and healing spaces for veterans and their families. By growing something sustainable, KOVH is planting seeds of renewal and community resilience.

5. Fundraising and Awareness Drives

From creative fundraisers like “50 for 50” on Amy’s birthday to raffles, merchandise sales, and partnership pitches to companies like Kubota, every dollar raised goes directly toward programs that give veterans a fighting chance to stay in their homes.

The Bigger Picture—Advocacy and Legislative Change

KOVH doesn’t just treat the symptoms; it works to fix the system. The foundation is actively advocating for the reinstatement or creation of safety programs like VASP, improved VA mortgage protections, and policies that reflect the unique needs of military families. This fight is not easy, but KOVH knows meaningful change takes persistence, passion, and people willing to speak out.

How You Can Stand With KOVH

KOVH’s strength comes from people—people who refuse to let those who served our country face foreclosure in silence. Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate: Every contribution funds care packages, outreach, and advocacy.

  • Volunteer: Become part of the Ambassador Program or help with local events.

  • Spread the Word: Share KOVH’s campaigns on social media and talk to your community about the veteran foreclosure crisis.

  • Partner: Businesses, churches, and civic groups can join KOVH in creating a safety net for veteran families.

A Promise to Our Heroes

The KOVH Foundation is more than an organization—it’s a promise. A promise that no veteran family will have to face foreclosure without support. A promise that their service and sacrifice will be honored not just with words, but with action.

Veterans stood guard for us. Now, it’s our turn to stand guard for them. Together, through KOVH, we can build a future where every veteran family has the stability, dignity, and hope they deserve.
