🛑 What Needs to Change—Now

ree

At the KOVH Foundation, we stand with every veteran who raised their hand to serve—and now finds themselves facing foreclosure, alone and unheard.

In 2025, while the economy struggles and housing costs surge, thousands of military families are losing their homes. Not because they failed their responsibilities—but because Congress failed them.

We cannot fix a structural problem with band-aids.We need bold, legislative action—now.

Why This Matters

In May 2025, the VA quietly ended the Veteran Assistance Servicing Purchase (VASP) program. This short-lived relief effort helped thousands by reducing their mortgage rates and avoiding foreclosure.

Now? Over 58,000 veteran families are left without a safety net.Foreclosures are rising. Hope is vanishing. And Washington is silent.

Our Legislative Demands to Congress

🔴 1. Immediate Reinstatement or Replacement of VASP

The expiration of VASP created a chasm in veteran mortgage protections.Without a plan in place, borrowers are now being steered into foreclosure instead of helped.

Congress must immediately reinstate VASP—or introduce a permanent, fully-funded VA loan rescue program modeled after the FHA Partial Claim system. This new structure must:

  • Reduce monthly payments by resetting interest rates

  • Offer a catch-up mechanism for delinquent borrowers

  • Be accessible without extreme red tape or delay

Veterans didn’t give up on this country. This country shouldn’t give up on them.

🔴 2. Moratorium on VA Foreclosures for Vulnerable Borrowers

While Congress debates, veterans are being evicted. We demand an immediate, temporary halt to all VA foreclosures for borrowers who:

  • Are disabled

  • Are on active-duty PCS reassignment

  • Have recently exited forbearance

  • Were previously eligible for VASP or similar loss mitigation tools

This moratorium should last until a permanent, effective solution is available. We don’t leave soldiers behind. We must not abandon them now.

🔴 3. Retroactive Relief for Veterans Already Foreclosed On

Thousands of veterans lost their homes while applying for help that was delayed or denied.

We call on Congress to:

  • Create a retroactive relief fund for veterans who lost homes between 2021 and 2025 due to gaps in VA policy

  • Provide options for legal appeal, loan reinstatement, or financial restitution

  • Prioritize cases involving service-connected disabilities, caregivers, Gold Star families, and senior veterans

Losing a home shouldn't mean losing dignity.

🔴 4. Mandated Congressional Oversight and Transparency

It is unacceptable that we know more about celebrity gossip than how many veterans are being foreclosed on this week.

Congress must mandate that the Department of Veterans Affairs:

  • Publicly report foreclosure filings, denials, and delinquencies related to VA loans

  • Share the data with oversight committees and the public monthly

  • Establish an independent watchdog to review VA loan servicing practices

We must shine a light on this silent crisis—because sunlight brings accountability.

This Isn't Optional. It's the Bare Minimum.

These demands aren’t radical. They’re reasonable. They’re not partisan. They’re patriotic. And they represent the bare minimum veterans deserve from the nation they served.

Congress: it's time to show up. Not with speeches. With action.
